Description

I. Position Summary:

The Staff Pharmacist is responsible for the safe, effective and cost-effective use of drugs through the application of specialized knowledge, skills, and professional judgment. The pharmacist serves as a patient advocate when planning and implementing pharmaceutical care by considering the patient's disease conditions, age background, need for understanding and participation in drug therapy in a fiscally responsible manner. These activities occur in all aspects of pharmacy practice including adult and pediatric inpatient areas and satellites, specialty areas such as operating rooms, and outpatient services. The pharmacist is responsible for directly supervising support personnel in the immediate assigned area.

Qualifications::

I. Position Requirements:

A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Registered Pharmacist in the State of Colorado. BCPS certification preferred.

B. Education: B.S. or Pharm D. degree in Pharmacy. Graduate of an accredited residency program preferred.

C. Experience: Minimum of three-five years hospital pharmacy experience preferred.

D. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

1) Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of the practice of pharmacy and medication safety practices. Demonstrates the ability to plan, provide and monitor the delivery of pharmaceutical services. 2) Ability to recognize the needs and concerns of people and to maintain constructive relationships in dealing with them. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to assume 24 hour responsibility for integration of interpersonal aspects in all patient care. Recognized personal responsibility in striving for innovative health care delivery which meets contemporary needs and assumes leadership in negotiating for changes in health care. 3) Responsible for maintaining knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and established standards concerning practice of Pharmacy. Acts in a consulting and advisory capacity to physicians, nursing, and various departments. Ability to work with automated systems. Granted Automated Dispensing System/Meditech access and privileges.

External contacts: Patients, pharmacy students, federal, state and local regulatory agencies.
